Norman Padgett is no longer a Lubbock County Constable. On Friday Padgett's resignation took effect. Both Norman Padgett and fellow Constable Gary Newburn are accused of stealing more than $30,000 from the county. Newburn resigned last Friday.
Now the question is, who will replace them? The Lubbock County Commissioners Court can appoint a replacement until the next general election. In the meantime, County Commissioner Kenny Maines says sheriff's deputies may be able to help fill the void. "With the constables it is specific position that serves papers for the JP Court and the sheriff's office can handle that job ."
Maines says the commissioners court will review their options on Monday.
