Hale County Grand Jury Hands Down Indictments

A Hale County Grand Jury returned indictments Monday in two murders and one attempted murder case.

Among them, 24-year-old Johnny Rivera of Plainview, was indicted for murder. Rivera is charged in connection with the death of his girlfriend's two year old son. Robert Perez suffered head injuries while under Rivera's care, September 6th. He died two days later.

Also Monday, 24-year-old Christopher Lee Salinas was indicted for murder in the shooting of his common law wife, 22-year-old Mijoy Sierra, on August 28th.

Lastly, 19-year-old Eduardo Cervantez was indicted for attempted murder. Cervantez is accused of shooting his 17-year-old girlfriend Stephanie Hernandez in the shoulder earlier this month.

As of Monday all three men remain in the Hale County Jail.

    Heavy plumes of black smoke rose from the new practice facility at Jones AT&T stadium on Wednesday afternoon. According to Texas Tech University officials, a small fire started at the northeast corner of the TTU Athletics Sports Performance Center construction site at approximately 5:20 p.m.
