Fires still causing problems across state

DALLAS, TX (AP) - Firefighters continue battling blazes across Texas Saturday, including a fire six miles southwest of Wichita Falls that prompted the evacuation of 500 homes and destroyed two houses.

The 200-acre fire, sparked Friday amid 43 mph winds, was 10% contained Saturday.

The Texas Forest Service continued working on 16 major fires spanning 676,855 acres. Six new fires were reported Friday.

A 9,600-acre fire near Junction prompted evacuations of a subdivision, but firefighters were successful in battling the fire from the air. It was 80% contained.

More than 400 firefighters and support staff continued working the massive fire in Presidio and Jeff Davis counties that has destroyed more than 40 homes. It was 74% contained Saturday.

Burn bans were in effect in 211 of the state's 254 counties.
