Meals on Wheels celebrates 40 years of service

For 40 years now, Meals on Wheels has been delivering nutrition to Lubbock's homebound. Earlier this week, the agency invited donors and supporters to celebrate the anniversary.

Meals on Wheels was created in an effort to help keep the elderly in their own homes for as long as possible, instead of an assisted living center.

"It's a dream come true for the lady who helped start it, for the two women who were there from day one, this is what they envisioned, that 40 years later this program would still be going on and it would be growing and helping the people in the city of Lubbock.", says Ann Gallaway who is the daughter of Meals on Wheels founder.

The organization now delivers more than 550 meals a day and offer special programs like emergency meals and a pet food program.
