Members of the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office are in Austin to honor a fallen corporal. D. Robert Harvey was killed in a Lubbock County crash in April of 2009 while responding to a call.
On Sunday, a candlelight vigil was held at the state capitol for him and other fallen officers who have lost their lives in the call of duty. According to the Peace Officers' Memorial Foundation, Texas leads the nation in the number of officers killed in the past two years.
On Monday at 11 a.m., more than 1,000 officers gathered to keep the memories of those who have died for the safety of others alive. The memorial included a parade of Honor Guards and a service at the state capitol.
