Butch Henderson to coach Wayland Football

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Wayland Baptist has called a Wednesday press conference for 11:30 a.m. to name their new football coach. KCBD NewsChannel 11 Sports has learned former Coronado football coach Butch Henderson will take over the Pioneers.

Henderson was let go in November after 23 years at Coronado where he won 141 games. The 58 year old has tremendous faith and football knowledge and his daughter went to Wayland Baptist.

Butch will be whistling up in Plainview as he takes over for Jeff Lynn who resigned after 4 months on the job. Wayland is reinstating football after a 71 year absence. Over 100 athletes have already signed on to be part of the 2011 Leadership Class and the Pioneers will play their first season of football in 2012.

KCBD NewsChannel 11 Sports will be in Plainview tomorrow to get reaction from Butch Henderson about making the jump to college football at Wayland Baptist.
