On Tuesday, the South Plains Electric Cooperative (SPEC) hosted area students at their Lubbock office to demonstrate how important it is to stay safe around electricity. It's part of Electrical Safety Month.
SPEC crew members visited with the students. They also showed them the equipment they use, demonstrated a bucket truck rescue, and spoke about potential dangers when electricity is being used.
"Electricity is something we use everyday and we never think about, but electricity is deadly if not handled correctly," SPEC Spokeswoman Lynn Simmons said.
SPEC will host another presentation in Lubbock on Wednesday, and they also have programs scheduled in Spur and Childress. They hope to reach around 700 children with the safety message during the presentations.
