If you haven't driven by UMC in a while, you might be surprised to see a brand new, 28,000 square foot, building extending to the east of the main entrance. It's called the East Tower. It looks almost finished from the outside, but there's much to be done on the inside.
The entire first floor will house a new labor and delivery unit, along with a new and improved neonatal intensive care unit.
"We've included some things like noise abatements, so it's a quieter place before there were large rooms where multiple patients were in, and now there will be private rooms. We got input from patients, staff, and physicians to redesign the facility. We're really excited about the way it's going to look," said UMC's Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President, Dr. Mike Ragain.
The East Tower will also house additional beds for our aging population. The whole thing is expected to be ready for patients sometime next spring.
