Perry too busy with legislature for presidency

AUSTIN, TX (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry says he is too busy concentrating on the Legislature to think about the presidential buzz around him this week.

Perry spoke to reporters Thursday after a speech on turning Austin into a high-tech center. He said all of his focus was on getting a budget passed by the May 30 deadline.

On Wednesday Rush Limbaugh devoted 20 minutes to extolling Perry's virtues as a Republican presidential candidate. The Washington Times also wrote about Perry's potential as a candidate this week.

But Perry has repeatedly denied any plans to run for president.

Perry said his work with the Legislature was "substantially more important" than any of the speculation about his political plans. He said he tries not to be distracted by the buzz.
