NewsChannel 11's Sport Director Pete Christy was at the Texas Tech Rec Center's Lazy River Sunday evening for a summer kick-off get-together to raise awareness about stop texting and driving.

The pledge was more than just about not texting behind the wheel, it was also to get kids focused as school let's out to not drink and drive. The program was created after 17-year-old Alex Brown died in a texting in driving wreck in 2009. More than 21,000 people have signed the pledge so far.
