Needing to win 2 games on Friday to capture their third NAIA National Championship, LCU first avenged a 1-0 loss to Lee, Tennessee by rebounding to rout Lee 10-2. After a 3 hour break, the Chaps were back on the diamond in Lewiston, Idaho to face Concordia for the Championship, where the Chaps lost 9-3.
LCU took a 2-1 lead in the third, but Concordia got a bases clearing triple to jump in front 4-2 in the 4th. Austin Stewart, who hadn't hit a homer the entire season, hit his first against Lee and got his 2nd, a solo shot against Concordia to cut the lead to 4-3 in the 4th. Concordia's Blake Harrison silenced LCU's bats retiring 16 in a row. Concordia got back to back triples in the 9th and scored 5 to stretch the lead to 9-3.
In their third appearance in the NAIA title game, it's the first time the Chaps didn't win the title. The Chaparrals won the NAIA Championship in 1983 and 2009. No.9 Concordia University, was unranked and they finish with a 43-19 record and they capture their first NAIA title in program history.
LCU finishes the season 50-14 and NAIA runner-up.
