Coronado Baseball returns to State

For 4 straight weeks, Comeback Coronado has lost game 1 of a best of 3 series, but rebounded to take the next 2 and now the Mustangs are back in the State Tournament. 3pm Friday in Round Rock in the 5A State Semifinals, they meet defending State Champion Corpus Christi Carroll. This time they can't lose game 1, as it's only 1 game!

The last and only other time Coronado made it to the State Baseball Tournament was in 1995. Seniors on this year's Mustang team were 2 years old or less. Coronado's Coach then John Dudley hopes the team plays their game and doesn't listen to the naysayers who think baseball on this side of I-35 is a notch below. 16 years ago, Dudley's Mustangs were given no chance in the State Semifinals against #1 Grand Prarie, but Coronado won 4-1. The Mustangs lost to Elkins in the Title game 6-0, but this year's team definitely has a shot. KCBD NewsChannel 11 Sports will be in Round Rock with the team and have complete Extra Inning coverage, plus we will have features and spotlight Coronado all week long on the News at 6 and 10.
