The Bill Clayton Detention Center in Littlefield is going to auction, according to an announcement from Williams and Williams Marketing Services.
Scheduled for July 28th, the auction will sell the property to the highest bidder above the opening bid of $5 million. Interested buyers can bid on site or live from anywhere via www.auctionnetwork.com.
"The new owners will benefit from the support of the community that built the facility," said Rob Bridges, Senior Vice President of Williams & Williams. "The area's low cost of living as well as a ready local workforce makes this a very attractive turn-key opportunity."
Littlefield used an $11 million bond to build the prison, and the city still owes millions. For a time, the medium security detention center held prisoners from Idaho, but that contract expired and the facility remains empty.
