New information from the CDC supports the theory that the bathroom is one of the most dangerous rooms in the house. The study finds more than 200,000 Americans older than age fifteen were treated in emergency rooms for bathroom-related injuries in 2008. A majority of the injuries were caused by falls, and most often getting in and out of the shower or tub. The risk for injury increased among adults age sixty-five and older, but many of the injuries occurred among all age group. This is leading experts to recommend grab bars for all households. The most common injuries were scrapes and bruises, but older adults were more likely to break bones.
