Texas Tech baseball home attendance in nation's top 25

Texas Tech baseball ranked 24th nationally in average home attendance and 25th in the country in total home attendance during the 2011 season, according to figures released Tuesday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. It marks the 16th consecutive season Tech has ranked among the top 31 teams in the nation in home attendance.

Texas Tech's average of 2,771 fans per home game was 24th in the country and marks the program's fifth highest average all-time. It is the highest average per game for the Red Raiders since 2002 (2,866).

A total of 91,472 fans packed Dan Law Field this season, a figured that ranks 25th among NCAA Division I programs. It is the seventh highest total attendance figure in Red Raider history and their most fans to watch Texas Tech baseball in a season since 2004 (98,934).

The Red Raiders had the third highest total and average attendance per game among Big 12 programs, trailing only Texas (6,500 – average; 273,029 – total) and Texas A&M (3,994 – average; 155,772 – total), both of which will be participating in the College World Series in Omaha later this week.

Texas Tech had 10 home games with at least 3,000 fans, including three consecutive 3,000-plus crowds on two occasions. On Opening Day, 2,398 fans watched the Red Raiders shutout Western Michigan, 8-0, which marked the most fans on Opening Day at Dan Law Field since 2003.

The top crowd of the season was on March 4, when then-No. 8 TCU came to town and 4,173 fans saw the series opener, the most fans at Dan Law Field since 2006 (4,244 – vs. No. 16 Texas).

Overall, the Red Raiders were 21-12 at Dan Law Field this season – the program's most home wins since 2006 (22-8-1). Tech also notched an 8-4 record at home during Big 12 play, which gave the Red Raiders their best winning percentage at home (.667) during league play since 2002 (11-4, .733).
