Each year the North and East Lubbock Community Development Corporation presents an award to a particular individual or organization within the Lubbock community that exemplifies commitment to community and the free enterprise system. This year the development corporation is pleased to announce the 2011 recipient of the Community Champion Award is Mr. Rodney Warren, the franchisee of several Sonic Drive-Ins in the Lubbock area.
David Langston, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the development corporation said, "Rodney is an outstanding citizen and entrepreneur who has remembered his roots and placed his drive-ins within our target area where they are now some of the most successful locations in his company. He has really helped instill pride in his employees - many of whom have been hired for their first jobs by Sonic."
Warren received the award at the annual Community Champion Award Banquet Tuesday evening at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
The annual event recognizes individuals and corporations that have made special contributions to efforts within the north and east quadrants of the City to foster economic development. This year, Former U.S. Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales, gave the keynote address at the event.
Langston commented, "We are delighted to have Alberto Gonzales as our speaker at this year's banquet. He obviously has a long history of devotion to the State of Texas as well as a commitment to public service. His career spans a period of tremendous economic progress in our state, and we look forward to him sharing with us his experience and views about how communities can best cooperate in creating jobs and opportunity."
Alberto Gonzales served as the U.S. Attorney General from 2005 to 2007. He previously served as White House Counsel to President George W. Bush, Justice of the Texas Supreme Court, and as the Secretary of State of Texas.
