Last year, Lubbock Police recorded 23 traffic fatalities for the entire year. As of Tuesday, Lubbock has already surpassed that total with 24 fatalities. Sergeant Ronnie Sowell says this is discouraging news, considering there are still two and a half months left in the year.

Besides that, there are several holidays coming up, providing more opportunities for parties and alcohol abuse.

"When you put all the components in the equation, speeding, aggressive driving, the possibility of alcohol, it's just a very dangerous situation and we hope the citizens of Lubbock will think about that." said Sowell.
