Construction to Begin on New Amphitheater

A project four years in the making has finally broken ground in Lubbock. With a few shovels, the city broke ground on the Wells Fargo Amphitheatre in Mackenzie Park.

In 1999 Lubbock voters approved a $1.7 million bond to pay for the amphitheatre. But construction was delayed due to adjustments which resulted in a price increase of $1-million. Now the $2.7 million amphitheatre is being built just South of Joyland and East of the South Plains Fairgrounds in Mackenzie Park.

Marc McDougal, Mayor of Lubbock, "Lubbock is know around the world for our musicians, artists and entertainers and this gives us another venue to showcase that talent."

Performances are scheduled to begin in spring of 2005.
