The city is reviewing it's 1999 Annexation Plan, in anticipation that other areas may want to annex into the city within the coming months or years. In 1999, the city annexed several portions of Southwest Lubbock.
The annex goes from 98th to 114th Streets between Indiana and Alcove. Also, West of Milwaukee to the Brownfield Highway. Since that time, the city has made progress, providing services to those residents, such as fire, water and sewer services. But, police protection is one area that needs improvement.
Lubbock City Councilman Tom Martins says, "The amount of activity has picked up so greatly in the annexed areas, that we're behind on adding officers to the police department."
The city is also looking at ways to improve the streets in those annexed areas.
