LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
Residents of Lubbock's tent city say they're grateful to the community for an abundance of ice donations. Resident Cliff Van Loan tells us that since our report aired, folks have donated many bags of ice, and a local company even donated an ice machine.
Van Loan says they don't want the donations to go to waste, so he asks that folks who still want to help donate bottled water.
Van Loan tells us some of the residents of tent city look to keep cool in public buildings during the extreme heat, but he tell us it can be a challenge. "While there are many public places, sometimes people get a little cross-eyed with them, just kind of hanging out. It's a life saving situation when they can find any place that is cool, so please be patient with them; they're just trying to stay alive," Van Loan said.
Van Loan says they're also having to replace tents due to the wind this spring. If you would like to help, you may call Les Burrus at (806) 776-2915.
