Posted: Updated:

A Lubbock man drowned over the weekend while rescuing his nephew. The Oklahoma Highway patrol reports that Carlton Peters, 33, died Sunday at Lake Texoma, North of Dallas.

Authorities say waves whipped his nephew out into the lake, and Peters swam out to save him. Another family member helped get the boy of of the water, but they could not reach Peters.

He went under and his body was recovered about an hour later. Authorities say Peters did not have a life-vest on.
