Maybe you know someone who is compulsively clean. And maybe you've said, well, her mother is the same way. Turns out there's a reason for that.
Scientists have uncovered a gene they believe plays a role in causing Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is characterized by repetitive unwanted thoughts or behaviors that control your daily routine.
In the study of 170 people, OCD patients were more likely to inherit the gene variation compared to people without the disorder.
The study was done in part by the National Institutes of Health where researchers say they're hopeful that this discovery could be the tip of the iceberg in understanding the genetic root of psychiatric illnesses.
