The South Plains is in critical need of blood. It's an urgent appeal expressed often in Lubbock, but now surgeries are being canceled because of the shortage. Covenant Medical Center was forced to cancel two surgeries because of the severe blood shortage. One of those was an open heart surgery. United Blood Services says the cancellations will continue unless donors come out in force. Past appeals have provided only a temporary fix.
Blood donors must be at least 17-years-old, at least a 110 pounds and in good health. You can donate drop at United Blood Services at 2523 48th or call (806) 741-1752 to make an appointment.
