Record breaking to surpass 1917 drought

According to the National Weather Service, 2011 is so far the 3rd worst drought in Texas history. With little rain being predicted in the area, the NWS believes that the 2011 drought is way on its way in breaking the 1917 record.

As of current records this is the 2nd worst drought for Lubbock. With such high temperatures and high winds it is encouraged to keep yards free of debrie and avoid any open flames. This also includes throwing cigarette butts out the window.
