It was a proud day for volunteers at the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. This is an American Bittern, a member of the Heron Family. For the past year, he has been recovering from a fractured wing at his summer home in Waterloo, Iowa. But because he had already missed this year's migration, the Rehab Center there enlisted a lot of help to get the bird to Lubbock.
He was released Monday into Lake Six, where experts believe he will probably spend most of the winter.
