Lady Gaga wears them, but some young fans are finding out it could be more trouble than it's worth to change the color of your eyes. The craze for colored contact lenses is prompting young people to buy them from boutiques or online.
It's a purchase that nearly cost this Erica Barnes her vision, and she only wore them for a day. "I couldn't open my eyes, and every time I tried, it started hurting more." Dr. Anne Steiner is an Ophthalmologist and she gave us her opinion. "All because of that contact lens that was not fit properly she was never educated; she was rinsing it in water, which predisposes you to infections."
Dr. Steiner says even after her infection is cured, Erica will have a scar, and will likely need a corneal transplant. Remember, federal law says any contacts, even those for cosmetic purposes, can only be purchased with a valid prescription.
