Police Urge Safety Precautions for Halloween

If you're little ghost or goblin is heading out to trick or treat remember to keep safety first.

  • Make sure young kiddos have an adult tag along with them.
  • Make sure their costumes do not drag the ground to avoid tripping.
  • Make sure those ghostly masks do not hinder their view.

Sgt. Ronnie Sowell with the Lubbock Police Department says with the new time change it will be getting dark much sooner, and that makes it more difficult to spot trick or treaters, but he does offer this advice.

"We encourage folks to have reflective material of some kind on the kiddos and certainly we stress to drivers to slow down because the children are gonna be everywhere every street and section of the city. Take your children to areas where you know the people that your children are trick or treating. We encourage parents to inspect the treats that their children get before they let them eat those treats to make sure that they're safe," says Sowell.

A few more tips include:

  • Carry a flashlight with you.
  • Always walk not run to get where you're going.
  • Obey all traffic signals, avoid alleys and stick to the main road.
  • Know your children's route and give them a time to be home.

By following these safety tips a safe Halloween can be had by all.
