Lubbock ISD student part of history at first ever Spanish Bee

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

"I'm so proud of him," said Yvonne Khan over the phone from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Her student, Mario Pimentel, 10, competed in the first ever National Spanish Spelling Bee. Pimentel will come back to Lubbock with a 6th place award. He qualified to compete in national event by winning the local LISD spelling bee.

Eleven students from grades 4th -8th took place in the bee. The event was held at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque.
