Spa Facial Straight from the Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkins aren't just for eating and decorating, some folks are using that vitamin rich vegetable as a facial treatment. Pumpkin is whipped into a concoction that looks a lot like pumpkin pie filling. Then, it's baked on, so to speak, with a shot of steam.

Day spa consultant Eriks Mangrum says that one of the things they see this time of the year is dead skin on people's face and pumpkin enzyme helps exfoliate the dead skin away and leave the softer brighter skin underneath.

While slathering the squash on your face may give you a fresh look, nutritionists will tell you that eating it can help you fight disease! The pumpkin's orange color signals the presence of beta carotene, a powerful antioxidant that fights cancer.

Pumpkin Facial Recipe

  1. Wrap a 4 oz. piece of pumpkin in wax paper and microwave 3 to 4 minutes until slightly soft
  2. Cool under running water to stop the cooking, then peel
  3. Place the pumpkin in a food processor or blender, adding in one egg yolk (pasteurized) and 2 teaspoons of plain yogurt
  4. Put the setting on puree and blend until smooth
  5. Apply mixture to freshly cleansed face and leave on for 20 minutes
  6. Rinse off
