LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Federal court records unsealed this week say an undercover Lubbock County Sheriff's deputy caught a woman in the act of impersonating a federal agent.

Amalia Salinas Barnette was charged back in June but it was only after she was caught and arrested in Corpus Christi that the official records were opened to public view.  Online jail records indicate she's not back in Lubbock yet.

Court records say an undercover officer posed as someone needing help getting forged immigration documents.  Those same records say Barnette met with the undercover officer at a Lubbock post office, showed a badge, and said she worked for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Court records say she promised the undercover officer help with documents if he paid her a little more than two thousand dollars.

Barnette lists an address in Houston but she also has a prior criminal history in Lubbock.

If convicted on the current charge, she faces as much as three years in federal prison.
