Authorities Searching for Clues in Fatal Car Fire

The investigation continues into a fatal car fire that occurred early Saturday morning killing a 22 year old Slaton woman.

According to the Hale County Sheriff's Office, a Ford Explorer was found engulfed in flames East of I-27 on FM 54 around 3am Saturday. When an Abernathy Police Officer arrived he found Veronica Muniz laying near the vehicle. Muniz was transported to the UMC burn unit and later died.

Now federal, state and local authorities are searching for clues trying to determine how and why she died. Officials are unsure if Muniz was the victim of a homicide, but say she died from burn injuries. Evidence taken from the scene has been sent to a crime lab for further analysis.
