Littlefield prison goes up for auction this week

LITTLEFIELD, TX (KCBD) -

The Bill Clayton Detention Center in Littlefield goes on the auction block this week.  Bids start at $5 million.

The City of Littlefield used an $11 million dollar bond to build the prison.  And the city still owes millions on it.  At one point the medium security facility held prisoners from Idaho, but that contract expired.  The city has been unable to find another state in need of prison space.  So, now the city-owned prison sits empty.

The auction is set for this Thursday.
