A Lubbock man was found dead Sunday in Lynn County and authorities are calling it a homicide. Lynn County Sheriff Jerry Franklin said a farmer discovered Robert Balderrama, 50, around 4:45 Sunday evening.
"He was dead and appeared to have gunshot wounds in his chest and there was no firearm around," Franklin said.
Franklin said they have talked with a person of interest. "It was someone that he knew and I really can't expand on that at this time," he said.
Balderrama was found lying next to a car investigators say was owned by his wife. Franklin said she is not the person of interest, nor is she being questioned in his death.
Balderrama was reported missing by family to Lubbock Police after 10 a.m. Sunday. The Lynn County Sheriff's Office got the information a few hours later at 1:15.
Franklin said Balderrama lived in Lubbock, but was originally from O'Donnell. The Lynn County Sheriff's Department is receiving assistance from the Texas Rangers in their investigation.
Balderrama remarried his wife on Friday before the incident.
"On Friday, I'm not sure what time, he married his wife. They had previously been married and raised children and then they had been divorced," said Franklin.
A fund has been set up in Robert Balderrama's name for funeral expenses. You can donate at any Wells Fargo location.
