New Developments In Canyon Lakes Project

The Lubbock City Council is putting plans into action for the Canyon Lakes Project, which is now known as the Jim Bertram Lake System.

The Council recently approved a contract with Parkhill, Smith and Cooper, Inc. for the construction of Fiesta Plaza. It is a festival area which will include performance areas, a picnic area, boat dock and fishing pier. The master plan for the system includes a regional park with a lake with bridges.

The $1 million dollar project is funded in part by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and a 1999 Bond Election approved by Lubbock citizens.

Construction is estimated to be completed by December 31, 2004.
