Traditionally, getting ready for the new school year includes shopping for books, back packs, supplies, and new clothes. Here's something on the to-do list that's free to Medicaid patients, a complete check-up before school.
It's part of a program called Texas Health Steps, and it's sponsored by Texas Tech Physicians in the Family Medicine Clinic at the Health Sciences Center. Dr. Kelly Klein said, "It's a preventative medicine service where they can come to our clinic, and see one of our family medicine doctors. They will get a physical exam from the doctors and from the nurses, and get caught up on any of their immunizations. There's dental services that will be available to them, too. That's part of their Texas Health Step Exam."
Texas Health Steps is this Friday from 9:00 to 4:00 for kids from birth through age 18. Again, medical and dental well-checks and immunizations are free to those who have Medicaid. Otherwise, your insurance will be billed. You do need to call for an appointment, and that number is 743-1177.
