Hundreds pay tribute to fallen biker

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock Police now know the person who hit two bikers Thursday night and fled the scene in the Depot District. They say the suspect turned himself in. However, police are not releasing the name or charges right now, but say both should be filed shortly.

Jose Trejo, known as JoJo, was with his wife Jennifer on the bike that night and later died from his injuries. His wife survived.

Thursday, the biker community came together to lay Trejo to rest at Resthaven. Last year nine motorcyclists were killed, four in one week. Now Trejo is added to that list. Bikers are now rallying around his death sending the message "ride in peace".

Hundreds of bikers who knew Trejo and others just supporting the cause ushered Trejo's casket to his final resting place.

Friends say Trejo never went anywhere without his Harley and loved to ride with Jennifer who he married 17 years ago. They say he was a loving husband and friend who made everyone laugh.

Close to one thousand people came to commemorate his life. Some wore red and black shirts with Trejo's name and picture on the front with the caption "ride in peace". A part of the money raised will go to Trejo's wife and his four children.

"It just gives you that feeling inside.....just look at all these people. It's wonderful," said family member Alex Rodriguez.

Rodriguez has known Trejo since he was a baby. He like many others shed tears as they remembered the 34-year-old whose life was cut too short by a tragic accident.

Just one week ago, Trejo and his wife were struck by an SUV who fled the scene. After two days of battling for his life, Trejo lost the fight Sunday. Jennifer attended the funeral with a leg injury and broken heart.

"Sorrow, hurt, you know. He's in a better place now," said Rodriguez.

Many say they will miss their dear friend and loved one, but they know he will ride into eternity in peace.

The family has a memorial fund set up in Jose Trejo's name at Wells Fargo.

There is also a benefit BBQ on Saturday in Shallowater just one mile north of Hwy 84 on FM 179, just north of TJ's Minimart.
