City Council members discussed options to separate Lubbock Power and Light from city hall.
One of those option requires a change in city charter and a special city election. Once approved, a new board of directors would be appointed by the city council. Although LP&L would still be a city owned asset, the new board of directors would hire and fire employees, set electric rates, and the approve the use of LP&L funds.
Mayor Marc McDougal will appoint a task force to research the matter. Their findings will be presented in the form of a recommendation at a future city council meeting.
