It is unusual enough that a married couple would each have had a liver transplant in their past. In a news conference at the University of Miami Medical Center, after the birth of their first child, comes the news that their little family has made medical history.
Transplant surgeon, Dr. Andreas Tzakis, said "we believe that's the first time that we have a baby born out of both parents being liver transplant recipients"
New mom, Trine Engerbretsen, said "I like to show our donor families that we're carrying forth their generosity and really trying to make the most of the gifts we've been given."
Trine had her liver transplant when she was just 2 years old, but her husband, Ryan, needed a liver transplant three years ago while they were dating, and life goes on.
