The criminal case against a Lubbock terror suspect is not going as quickly as previously scheduled. This week attorneys for Khalid Aldawsari asked for and received permission to extend the deadline for filing motions.
Aldawsari was arrested in February on a charge of Attempted Use of a Weapon of Mass Destruction. Prosecutors say Aldawsari collected the material necessary for a chemical bomb in his central Lubbock apartment. Court records say Aldawsari's proposed targets included the home of former President George W. Bush.
The defense says in court records that prosecutors have provided some but not all of the evidence that they are required to share. Motions were due on Monday but now the defense has permission to file late motions depending on what prosecutors turn over. The case involves both classified information and evidence gathered under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
