LIA To Change Name?

Friends and colleagues of former Governor Preston Smith presented the Airport Board with a new idea...renaming the airport in honor of the man who spent most of his life making Lubbock a better place.

Right now the late Governor has a school named in his honor, but some Lubbock Citizens believe he deserves more recognition. The board was presented with three possible names: Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, Lubbock International Preston Smith Airport, or Preston Smith International Airport, Lubbock.

The Airport Board will consider renaming the airport next month at their next board meeting. The Lubbock City Council has the authority to change the name of the airport and the Airport Board will make a recommendation to the council if they come to an agreement of changing the name.
