The government is hoping to harness the passion some have for Facebook, and us it in life and death situations. The Department of Health and Human Services says it's developing a Facebook application that would help people through catastrophic events-- anything from hurricanes to terrorist acts. The technology would identify and connect friends who agree to be "lifelines." In other words, someone who would check on you in an emergency, or perhaps offer shelter, and provide updates online. The agency is taking "lifeline" applications online now.
