40-year-old Tony Romo Jr., of Lubbock, was found guilty Thursday on two counts of aggravated sexual assault.
The incident happened in March of 2001 and the victim was a 14-year-old girl on her way to school.
Romo was taken into custody just a week later, following a chase across much of Lubbock. At the time, police did not connect Romo to the rape case, but almost two years later, a DPS computer matched Romo's DNA to the unsolved crime.
Romo now faces up to life in prison. Sentencing will take place in about two weeks.
