There are now three Republican candidates vying for the Lubbock County Commissioner's seat representing precinct one.
Lubbock businessman, W.L. Matheny, announced his candidacy for the position this week. He says he is seeking the office because when it comes to the handling of county money, it's time for a change.
"I'm gonna make their dollar stretch every penny that I can. They can come in and say we need "x" amount of dollar and I'm gonna say show me where they're justified."
Matheny is seeking the position now held by County Commissioner Kenny Maines, who has decided not to run for re-election. Jane Cansino and Bill McCay are also running for the office.
