Compression boots could have a positive effect on C-sections

Posted: Updated:

They may not be fashionable or comfortable, but special compression boots could help lower the risk of dangerous blood clots during C-section surgery. The American college of OB-GYN's say the use of the inflatable boots strapped to a patient's leg should be routine for most C-sections. That's because a cesarean delivery almost doubles a woman's risk of developing blot clots, which is the leading cause of maternal death in the United States. Experts say the boots should be left on until the new mom is up walking again after delivery. The OB-GYN's add that if you're pregnant, and develop pain or swelling in the leg. That's something your doctor should know about as soon as possible.
