Information from Lubbock Power & Light news release.
Lubbock Power and Light's Internet service provider has informed the utility that Internet service will not be available for 3 hours tonight, prompting LP&L to suspend business office operations from 5:00pm to 8:00pm (CST). All of LP&L's payment processing is facilitated through Internet service during this time. This suspension of services only affects business office operations and will not affect LP&L's emergency operations services related to electric outages.
Chris Sims, LP&L's Public Information Officer, explained the decision to suspend office operations.
"LP&L made the decision to suspend business office operations tonight because LP&L's billing system will not be able to recognize payments coming from the Internet, electronic banking, Western Union Pay Centers and payments made by telephone during this Internet service interruption." Sims added, "LP&L can only restore services when our billing system recognizes that a payment has been made.
"The billing system relies on Internet service to perform these functions during this time of the day," Sims said.
Restoration of services for payments received after 5pm today will be resumed tomorrow. LP&L expects all business office operations to resume to normal tomorrow Sept. 1, 2011 at 8am.
