Closing arguments start Tuesday morning in the trial of Dr. Thomas Butler, the Texas Tech researcher accused of smuggling samples of plague bacteria.
The defense rested Monday after Butler completed his testimony in federal court in Lubbock, where he testified he's innocent of all charges.
Butler is accused of smuggling plague-causing bacteria and of lying to federal agents after his report of 30 stolen vials in January. Testimony indicated Butler accidentally destroyed the vials.
Butler also faces charges of theft, embezzlement, and fraud.
