Monday is world AIDS day, so in honor of that, the South Plains AIDS Resource Center (SPARC), in conjunction with Planned Parenthood and Global Partners is sponsoring a 24 hour free screening for HIV. It's confidential and anonymous. So who should take advantage of this?
Tony Thornton, CEO of Planned Parenthood says that teenagers, young adults and anybody who is in the sexually active category that has sex with multiple partners and doesn't know the history of that partner should be tested.
Here's why it's important to know if you're HIV infected: finding it early means taking new drugs which can prevent or slow the progression of the illness while ignoring treatment can bring a rapid decline to your health. So, if you want to take advantage of this free 24-hour screening, stop by SPARC's headquarters anytime between midnight Sunday and midnight Monday for your free HIV testing. SPARC is located at 4819 Avenue Q.
