Shoppers Beware of Thieves

Shoppers get ready. The biggest shopping day of the year begins Friday. But also beware, while you're shopping, thieves may be shopping for you.

Thousands of shoppers are expected to wait in long lines to find the best deals for Christmas. Local merchants are opening their doors early and offering special bargains to early bird shoppers on Friday.

With the influx of shoppers, Lubbock Police say thieves will be looking to find themselves a bargain, in your car. Lubbock Police Sgt. Wayne McClanahan warns, "There are a lot of individuals watching you in the parking lot even though you're not aware of it. Be very cognizant of what's going on around you."

To keep your car and Christmas gifts from being stolen, Sgt. McClanahan has these tips:

  • Park in a well lit area.
  • Leave shopping bags and other items in your trunk.
  • If you don't have a trunk, cover valuables with a blanket.
