Most people think it's a fact of life that age takes its toll your balance. However, researchers at Virginia Tech have determined it's not just age, but design that makes some seniors more prone to falls.
Dr. Thurmon Lockhart said, "People who fall are prone tend to walk differently, the mannerisms of our gait, for example."
They are using a sensor on the ankle, and a track built to trip people unexpectedly. They are also measuring different gaits, and sending the data to a computer in an effort to pinpoint which seniors are more likely to fall. They are also hoping to intervene with solutions.
