Timeline of Events Leading To Verdict In Trial Of Dr. Thomas Butler

Breaking news across the country, that was the reaction to a bio-terrorism scare in Lubbock 11 months ago. Now, Lubbock is once again under the spotlight as a Lubbock Federal Jury reaches a verdict in the trial of Dr. Thomas Butler.

It was back on January 13th, of this year, when the FBI learned that a Texas Tech Researcher reported thirty vials of Bubonic Plague Bacteria missing from the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. Two days later, Federal Agents arrested Dr. Thomas Butler, the man they believed responsible for the missing vials. On September 3rd, Butler was indicted by a Lubbock Grand Jury on 69 Counts. Charges that included smuggling plague-causing bacteria and lying to federal agents.

The case received national attention once again on October 19th when Butler interviewed with the nationally televised program "60 Minutes" On November 3rd, the Federal Trial against Butler was underway. After fourteen days of trial, the jury begins deliberating...leading to tonight's (Monday) verdict: Guilty on 47 of 69 charges.
